Anglica Antiqua

Anglica Antiqua Commissions a Play!

We are thrilled to announce an upcoming collaboration with playwright, Kate Mulley, set in the height of the17th century, a period of prolific creativity and rabble rousing. The Mermaids is an original piece of theater, drawing from original sources, poetry and music of the period. Set in the infamous Mermaid Tavern, the play follows pub culture and the community of poets, composers and playwrights that both simultaneously inspired and corrupted one another. Throughout the evening the audience will meet characters reminiscent of Shakespeare, Milton, Purcell, Donne, Johnson, and Wilson while focusing on the loving yet often complicated relationship between the brothers Henry and William Lawes.

Our First CD!

Anglica Antiqua will be beginning a fund raising campaign to record our first CD later this Spring. Our aim is to focus on the repertoire that we have transcribed from original sources and has yet to be recorded. We feel that our hard work in uncovering and bringing to life these rarely heard works is an valuable contribution to both the music world and the greater community at large. For our first CD, we'll call on some of our old favorite friends John Wilson, Robert Johnson, William and Henry Lawes and more!
